The Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation (GDPC) has held its Annual CEOs’ Breakfast Meeting for leaders of selected Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs), bringing together industry executives to deliberate on emerging issues affecting the stability and growth of Ghana’s financial sector.
The two-day event, held on 28th and 29th July 2026 at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra, served as a strategic platform for Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors of SDIs to engage in high-level discussions on key developments shaping the banking industry and to explore practical solutions to challenges confronting the sector.
The meeting, which was attended by 80 Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors of Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions, was held under the theme, “Operational Resilience and the New Cyber and Information Security Directive.”
In his opening address, the Chief Executive Officer of GDPC, Mr. Galahad Alex Andoh, Esq., underscored the importance of strengthening operational resilience in an era of rapid digital transformation. He noted that while technological innovation continues to create significant opportunities for the financial sector, it has also introduced increasingly complex cyber risks that require proactive leadership and robust governance.
“We have gathered at a time when the digital transformation of our economy continues to accelerate, bringing unprecedented opportunities for innovation, growth, and financial inclusion. However, alongside these opportunities come increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, operational disruptions, and emerging risks that have the potential to affect institutions, customers, and the broader economy”, he remarked.
Mr. Andoh commended the Bank of Ghana for introducing the New Cyber and Information Security Directive, describing it as a timely intervention to strengthen the resilience of Ghana's financial system against evolving cyber threats.
He stated: “The introduction of the New Cyber and Information Security Directive by the Bank of Ghana represents a significant step toward strengthening cybersecurity governance, enhancing risk management frameworks, and promoting a more resilient digital ecosystem.”
The forum featured a technical presentation by Mr. Charles Osei Bonsu, Deputy Chief Manager at the Information Security Office of the Bank of Ghana, who highlighted the strategic importance of investing in information security. He stressed that cybersecurity investments should be viewed not only as regulatory obligations but also as critical enablers of institutional sustainability and long-term competitiveness.
Mr. Osei Bonsu informed participants that investments in information security technology are not merely about technology or compliance; they are about the sustainability, competitiveness, and future readiness of financial institutions and the broader economy.
He also provided participants with a detailed overview of the executive and board-level legal responsibilities under the updated cybersecurity regulatory framework. Discussions further explored practical and cost-effective cybersecurity frameworks that can be adopted by Tier 2 and Tier 3 Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions to enhance operational resilience while meeting regulatory expectations.
The GDPC Annual CEOs’ Breakfast Meeting forms part of the Corporation’s broader stakeholder engagement strategy to promote dialogue on issues that strengthen the safety, stability, and resilience of Ghana’s financial sector. By bringing together industry leaders, regulators, and subject matter experts, the forum continues to foster collaboration and the sharing of best practices that support a secure and resilient banking ecosystem.
